Chiropractic For Kids

Tiger Family Chiropractic is experienced in helping children have improved lives with chiropractic care.

The reasons that families bring their kids to our office varies, but here are some things to keep in mind about the health of our children and chiropractic care. What age should someone start seeing a chiropractor? Their whole life! You take your kids to the dentist as soon as they have teeth, well, we are all born with a spine, and we should begin taking care of it from the very start. In fact, studies indicate that the development of scoliosis could come from misalignment as early as 1 year old. This study also links untreated misalignments at birth to learning disabilities later in life. Heiner Biedermann, M.D. J Manipulative Physiol Ther2005 (Mar);   28 (3):   e1–e15 ~ FULL TEXT It makes sense to take care of your family’s spine their whole life. Our office has gentle effective care for babies and toddlers. Kids receiving care usually jump onto the table with enthusiasm to receive their treatment! When you bring your little one to our office, a chiropractor will sit down and talk with your family about your health goals. Here are some common reasons parents bring children to our office: prevention, colic, trouble sleeping, constipation, diarrhea, bed wetting, walking on tip toes, repeated ear infections, gait alterations, scoliosis, poor posture, pain, headaches, sinus congestion, and more. Once the chiropractor has established the reason you are bringing your loved one to see us, they will do a thorough examination. At your follow-up visit your chiropractor will explain the results of your child’s examination and make care recommendations on how chiropractic care can help. Once all of your questions are answered, the chiropractor will provide your child a gentle comfortable treatment.

Since we recognize that getting chiropractic care for someone having repeated ear infections can seem disconnected for someone new to chiropractic, we wanted to take a moment here to offer explanation. Chiropractors do not ‘treat ear infections’ they treat misalignments in the spine called subluxations. We know that a misalignment in the neck can cause muscles to get tense, some of those muscles surround the Eustachian tube (or the tube that drains the inner ear). When a misalignment in the neck, causes the muscles around the Eustachian tube to tighten, it can change how effectively the Eustachian tube drains, allowing fluid to build up. The fluid then promotes growth of things like bacteria and viruses that can lead to infection. As chiropractors we adjust the misalignment, which in turn can relax those muscles, which in turn can allow the Eustachian tube to drain more effectively, which in turn removes the excess fluid and reduces the chances of infection. If you have a health concern for your child, and you are wondering if chiropractic care can help, give us a call. Our chiropractors would be happy to sit down and talk with you about how chiropractic care impacts the nervous system, and the results that can have on the body. You might also be wondering how babies or toddlers could get a spinal misalignment. The study mentioned up above suggests that most babies being born have damage to their neck and heads in the birthing process. Additionally, toddlers will trip, stumble, and fall more in a single week than an adult does in an entire year of their life. Posture changes in children occur at early ages too as they engage in iPad or tablet usage, and prolonged sitting. There are many reasons that your child might have a misalignment, it doesn’t require a huge incident or accident to cause them. You are welcome to set up a consultation with a doctor of chiropractic to make sure and answer any questions or concerns you may have.
